Singapore Zoo's Experience

Hello Sherry!

Greetings from Singapore! How’s school going on? Hope you are coping well with your school work! Can’t wait for your visit to Singapore!

Do you still remember awhile ago you actually asked me to recommend to you one attraction for you to visit from the list of TripAdvisor recommended attractions for your visit to Singapore soon? Well I actually found a attraction among the list that I think you would like and enjoy your time there because I did!

Well... The attraction that I chose and visited from that list is none other than our very own unique Singapore Zoological Garden which was listed #1 zoo & aquarium in Singapore by TripAdvisor!

Singapore Zoological Gardens, occupying 28 ha, (69 acres) land area, is the pioneer batch of open concept Zoo in Asia. Being a man-made attraction, it is designed for tourism purpose. It is popular and well known to a lot of tourist who visit Singapore! Even though Singapore Zoo is located out of the city area, there are still a lot of people that come to visit the Zoo as it is easily accessible by public buses, coaches and taxis to the attraction. It is a must visit and cannot be missed attraction when you visit Singapore! I have even read reviews of visitors specially came down to the zoo while they were waiting for their connecting flight to another country! But I believe Singapore Zoo is also a primary attraction for a lot of visitors as they could spend up a full day in the zoo! This could really mean that Singapore Zoo is really an iconic attraction of Singapore.

During my visit to Singapore zoo, I could see all sorts of people from around the world! I believe their main source of visitors is definitely the families as it is a best place to educate your children! From French, Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese speaking tourist, they were all around! There were also a lot of teenagers, disabled elderly visitors that were being brought to visit the zoo by volunteers! I do feel that Zoo is such a great place for people to come and have a fun time and enhance their relationship together and at the same time, learning about nature and the animals! Admission Ticket priced at $22 for Adult, $14 for Child age 3-14 years old, and $11 for Senior Citizen aged 60 & above. I think this price is very value for money with the amount of knowledge and fun times being exchanged in zoo!

Moving on, you would have asked and questioned yourself, why did I choose to visit this attraction but not another attraction? Well for me, what motivated me to visit this attraction was my passion and liking towards animals and nature. I believe if my memory did not fail me, you mention to me before that you have an undying love for nature and animals! I remembered you telling me about how you love the experience of the 4 seasons, and how you loved animals, especially the furry ones! Well, in this case, Singapore only have summer season all year round! But I guarantee you that you will definitely love the Sunny weather and experience that you will get from the Zoo as this trip of yours will definitely be a amazing one!

So u might be thinking, what are you really buying from this attraction? I believe the main benefit that you will get from this attraction would be the atmosphere and the experience that you would get from the zoo. It is like a mini get away from the busy lifestyle that everyone have and it is a good time for you to enjoy and take a breather with this open nature attraction. Moving on, what could you actually get from this attraction? There are actually a lot of things that you could get out of this attraction! For example, u could take as many pictures as you like in the attraction and you could bring them home and show it to your friends and relatives! Or you could actually purchase souvenirs from the zoo and bring them home to share it with your loved ones! Brochures are also readily available at the ticket counters for you to roam around the zoo more easily so remember to take one before you head on to your adventure! There are so many things that you could bring back home and could proudly say that you have been to one of the most famous attractions in Singapore , the Singapore Zoo!

Furthermore, Singapore Zoo’s operating hours is from 8:30am to 6:00pm! You just have to pay a price of the admission fees and it will allow you to spend your one whole day at the attraction! That would be a full 9hr 30mins of quality time with the nature and the animals! It’s so awesome don’t you think so? Especially for nature lovers like us! Singapore Zoo is also a park with Disabled Friendly Services; about 90% of the park is paved pathways which allow easy access to all exhibits even for the disabled visitors. Wheelchairs are also readily available for free on a first come first serve basis for all visitors in need!

After visiting the zoo, I realise I gained a lot knowledge about animals from the exhibits, as well as from the animals show! There are certain live shows and feeding times going on at different time of the day, for example, the elephant show, the rainforest fights back show, which you will get a chance to be up-close and personal with the animals and the staff in charge, would actually be there and tell you more about the animals that they are currently feeding. In addition, you could actually feed the animals yourself to let you have a taste of being a zookeeper for a while! While there are paid feeding for the animals like the giraffe, feeding the goats seems to be free at certain timing! Don't you think that it is such a nice chance to interact with the animals and it is definitely a best chance for you to know more about the animals in the Zoo!

The benefits that you could get from the Zoo, there are so many! From the knowledge of all the different animals in the zoo, to the Singapore food that you could get to taste at food & beverage outlets in the zoo, to the products that you could get from the souvenir shop to bring it home to your family, to the nature that attract you to go and experience it yourself, there is so many plus points! So Singapore Zoo is definitely a must go attraction when you visit Singapore! Come on here to have a kind of an experience for yourself!

I believe with such a big attraction like the zoo, the experience that I received or you may receive may be different. The nature of the service product that you could find in zoo, there are several! Services that I receive may be different from yours as we get in touch with different service providers. For me, I met quite a few awesome service staff which helped me and gave me directions when I was at the zoo when I was a little lost inside the park and they gladly help me to make my way to the place that I wanted to go! Having great customer service will greatly affect your mood and overall experience at the attraction, don’t you think so?

With such a big attraction, there would be a few challenges that they face when they are operating day by day. I think that the challenges that Singapore Zoo faces would be the different attitude of the staffs that have direct contact with visitors who visits the Zoo. If there are no standard services and operating rules of dealing and interacting with visitors, many different visitors would have different experience at the attraction and if there are staffs that are rude to visitors, they would not have a pleasant time in the zoo and thus this would tarnish Singapore Zoo’s reputation and thus I think that this would definitely be a big challenge for Singapore Zoo, which is to maintain their service standards for all staff to ensure that all guest and visitors will have a pleasant time at the zoo.

A second point I would like to highlight is that, I do feel that visiting the Zoo, what I saw and what u will be seeing would somehow or another be different. For example, when I was there, I saw the white tiger actively roaming around its open cage and was very hyperactive to be welcoming the visitors visiting. After a while when I walked back to the white tiger resting area, the tiger was actually resting and not moving anymore. In this case, the animals in the zoo are zoo’s service product and it will not be standardized as their behaviour changing all the time.

The active white tiger that i saw!

Third, being a ticketed attraction, what means to them the most would definitely be their ticket sales per day. If the zoo ticket sales for that day are low, they could not keep their tickets and sell it tomorrow to their new visitors visiting the zoo. Thus their supply and demand is difficult to balance and gauge but they still would have to run their show even if their ticketing sales for that day is low. So it is important for the Zoo to actively promote the attraction to make sure they have enough visitors per day to keep the park lively and run the park smoothly.

So now... what do you think Singapore Zoo makes the cut of being the #1 attraction in Singapore? I think that the reason why Singapore Zoo have been ranked #1 on trip advisor is very simple, Singapore Zoo provides a lot of chances for visitors to get near the animals by introducing special experiences like Photograph with the Animals, Outdoor Dining with Animals , Camps, Wildlife tours, Guided Tram Rides, Boat Rides and Elephant Rides. Due to the fact that it is an open concept zoo, there is a lot of experience that you could get out of Singapore Zoo rather than other attractions in Singapore, which is a plus point for the park. Visitors will then learnt more about the nature and the animal habitats and thus I guess that this could be one of the factors that it why Singapore Zoo is highly ranked on Trip Advisor by visitors as they give a lot of positive reviews on the Zoo.

Visitors can get a experience to have a ride on elephants !

I believe that Singapore Zoo have also very successfully promoting itself as among the most beautiful wildlife park setting zoo in the world, with animals roaming around in their open cages with hidden barriers which thus enhance visitors experience as there are no barriers to block their view to see the animals up-close. There are also animals without standard living areas like monkeys, who could roam around freely in the zoo and visitors may just catch a glimpse of one next to them! Many of the animals’ living environments are also altered to what their natural living habitats are in the wild and this will entice visitors to come and experience the wild nature themselves.

Singapore Zoo, being such a big and important attraction of Singapore, definitely brings in positive and negative impacts such as Economic, Environmental and socio-cultural impact. Firstly, Singapore Zoo definitely brings in positive economic impact as it is a major attraction which draws in significant foreign currencies into Singapore. Visitors would also be spending their money on Food & Beverages, Souvenir shops and their expenditure would have multiplier effect within local and regional economy which will boost our economy which is a positive impact, and will thus help with improving our economy. With such a big attraction, there would definitely be a lot of job opportunities available as a lot of manpower would be needed to run the attraction and thus it contribute to the economy as it provide jobs for the locals to work, and thus being able to earn money for them to spend in the economy.

Being situated in Upper Seletar Reservoir, which is a highly forested catchment area, there would definitely be negative environmental impact on the attraction towards the environment. With annual visitors of 1.6 million visits to the Zoo per year, there would bound to be negative impact to the site done by the visitors like air & water pollution by cars and buses which transports visitors to the Zoo, litter which is caused by visitors, and thus wildlife would sometimes be damaged by visitors who would pollute the place knowing or unknowingly.

Lastly, for socio-cultural impact, being one of the most popular zoo in the world, us Singapore citizen would be proud of our own country knowing that there are people who travelled all the way to Singapore just to visit the zoo and thus making Singapore more well known in the world!

Summing things up, I think that Zoo would be an awesome place for you to visit when u visit Singapore! It will be a place for you to learn, enjoy and have fun with all the animals and there will be a lot of knowledge that you would gain from this trip! Do feel free to approach me and ask any questions that you would like to enquire about Singapore Zoo and if you like, I could actually accompany you to your Zoo trip when you are in town! I will be very glad to be your very own personal guide around Zoo! See you in Singapore soon!
